PROJECT HYDROGEOLOGIST / SENIOR HYDROGEOLOGIST
HydroSolutions, Inc. (HydroSolutions) seeks a mid- to senior-level Hydrogeologist to join our team. This is a full-time position located in our Billings Montana office.
HydroSolutions is a small, second-generation family-owned water resources consulting firm. Job Description:
This is a professional level position responsible for providing hydrogeologic consulting to serve our clients and support HydroSolutions’ staff. Work will primarily be focused on water resources projects throughout Montana. Duties of this position will include:
•Providing technical consultation for water supply planning, well design, well drilling and construction, source water protection, water rights, geologic and hydrogeologic investigations, aquifer testing and analysis, geologic and hydrogeologic mapping, contaminated site investigations, and development of conceptual site models.
•Analyzing and interpreting well testing data, model results, geophysical data, and hydrogeologicaldata.
•Preparation of reports and supporting figures and tables.
•Planning, overseeing and participating in field investigations of groundwater, surface water, soils,and air.
•Field work such as oversight of drilling and well construction, field mapping, and environmentalsampling of different media.
•Assisting in the preparation of water right applications through the Montana Department ofNatural Resources and Conservation.
•Preparing permit applications through the Montana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System andGroundwater Pollution Control System.
•Preparing construction dewatering plans in accordance with engineering specifications.
•Conducting project and task management.
•Performing business development activities, including client outreach, proposals, clientcontact/presentations, and professional society participation.
•Occasional travel required, potentially to small towns/rural areas. Travel requirements will varywith project needs but will likely range from two days to one week per month.
Required Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, civil engineering,or related technical field.
•Licensed as a Professional Geologist (Wyoming or Idaho) or Professional Engineer (Montana), orcapable of obtaining licensure within 3 years of employment.
•3+ years relevant work experience.
•Experience with field hydrological data collection including depth to groundwater measurement,lithologic logging of wells, aquifer testing, stream discharge measurement, and water qualitysampling.
•A deep understanding of the theory and practice of physical hydrogeology.
•Experience with water well design and construction.
•Excellent and demonstrable communication, organizational, technical, and report writing skills.
•Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specifications.
•Ability to develop detailed approaches to accomplishing tasks within required timeframes basedon general direction from Project Managers.
•Ability to work independently and to contribute work in a team environment.
•Accuracy and attention to details, ability to meet deadlines.
•Positive client interaction and work attitude. Willingness to incorporate constructive criticism andgrow under mentorship of senior staff.
•Strong computer literacy including proficiency in all MS Office software. Ability to quickly learnspecialty professional software as needed.
•Ability to perform aquifer test analysis using Aqtesolv or similar software.
•U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
•Valid state driver’s license and safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience practicing hydrogeology in Montana and experience with state regulatory agencies inMontana
•Master of Science degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, civil engineering, orrelated technical field.
•Familiarity with groundwater chemistry, particularly as it relates to water quality standards andwell performance.
•Experience with analytical and/or numerical groundwater modeling.
•Ability to conduct basic GIS analysis and prepare maps using ESRI ArcPro GIS software.
•Mining industry/minerals exploration experience.
Salary Range: Starting base pay could be between $30/hour and $40/hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
